Opening Night of ‘Seasons Stain The Vein’ Solo Exhibition by Sunshine Coast Artist Mitchell Cheesman

The G Contemporary was buzzing, and the crowds overspilling into the Noosa streets on Saturday night with the opening of the solo exhibition, Seasons Stain The Vein by local artist Mitchell Cheesman.

This is Cheesman’s third solo show in Noosa, and already a huge success. Collectors and admirers gathered to pay tribute to the new collection with plenty of red dots as the works were snapped up.

The expressive impasto weaves narratives and beauty throughout the paintings. The titles are always literary works of art in themselves, and on the night, Mitchell delighted the viewers with a rendition of poetry that captured all twenty two titles from the collection in beautiful prose, especially for the exhibition.

Seasons Stain The Vein
“The night time
crosses our legs and
the scent of tobacco
and rose appears.

The clay head and
the agapanthus
Sits as green as grey,
like a bowl inside
of a plate, staring
back at you, a self
portrait with a
moustache hat.

My still life in Nina’s
Café, the minute after
with heat that is blinding
to see and most draining
to feel all of most days
In the suppertime
when the heat burns
the lady in purple that
feeds the two-headed goose
on the corner at the
round-a-bout, the pipe
smoking cockatoo’s eat
at the yellow bunch above
the Japanese vase, learning
to fly and smell at the
same time, comfortably
seated upside down
with roo.

Ceramic Frangipani Tower
and the weathered lily
For the minute after
named Nina, the balance
of the transcendental
setting in September
sails the self portrait
in the rain, The winter
Side of Samuel holds
the last rose of December
on the cane couch with
the spinning lamp, never
driven past the
roadside bookshelf, these
are the seasons that
stain my vein.”
