Imitation of Life

A stunning synergy of abstract paintings by Michael Whitehead and flowing ceramic sculptures by Yanni Van Zijl.

Michael undertakes the painting process with reaction and emotion as reference points which yields its unique imagery. A portrait, a landscape, an architectural rendering, are all observations or proposals of what exists and the possibility of what could exist as either an interpretation based on visual reference, or the representation of an idea.

In Yanni’s s sculptural works, form and fluidity merge into a language of movement – an unbroken dance of energy, space and time. Each piece, reminiscent of the infinite, embodies the ceaseless flow of existence: the ebb and swell of the natural world, the unseen currents of the wind, the tides, the breath, the pulse of life itself.
