Room n.VIII Room n. VIII (the pink polka-dotted Siamese twin elephant in the room)

At the centre of the composition, a majestic pink polka-dotted Siamese twin elephant sits joined by a smaller version of itself, a symbol of the inner child we carry. The mirror above the fireplace reflects the child within, suggesting that, like karma, the mirror returns something of ourselves.

A crow sits on the edge of the fireplace, quietly observing, almost as the initiator of chaos, as another crow across the room gets ready for battle with a white dove representing the yin and yang as a battle for balance and a cry out against these unbalanced times.

A silhouette backlit by a large window, mid-flight, the birds are shown a moment before impact.

The scene unfolds beneath the watchful presence of a seated girl holding a sunflower, appearing almost as though she is imagining the entire encounter, daydreaming the whole scene.

Viewed from a lower perspective, the room draws us in, inviting us to look through a view as if we were standing there in the room itself. Reminding us to view things from our prospective, rise up and witness the strange theatre of our own inner landscape.

This room becomes a portrait of the pianist’s imagination, a place where an ordinary moment of practice opens into a world of wonder.
