Opening Night ‘I Love You Buckets Full’ by Brandi Hughes
The G Contemporary hosted a full house of friends, collectors, and admirers in celebration of Brandi Hughes‘ I Love You Buckets Full.
On Saturday evening, we celebrated the opening of Brandi Hughes’ new exhibition I Love You Buckets Full at The G Contemporary. Each artwork, a single-subject against a strong-coloured backdrop, draws from personal archives of childhood memorabilia. Clowns, Lego pieces, Barbie, and iconic plastic chairs (to name a few) are positioned in striking realism. Across both large and small-scale works, these familiar items become vessels for memory – tracing a narrative of motherhood and the artist’s return to her inner child.
Reflecting on the exhibition, Brandi Hughes shares:
“These are the kinds of things I’ve inherited, not wealth but something quieter. A phrase. An object. A feeling.
We don’t always inherit money; sometimes it’s recipes, jewellery, or words. Small, meaningful things that carry stories and love through generations.”
