Opening Night ‘Waterholes And Other Places For The Soul’ by DAVID HINCHLIFFE
A full gallery for the opening night event of David Hinchliffe’s new solo exhibition, Waterholes And Other Places For The Soul, followed by a weekend of live painting. In spectacular reds, oranges, blues and purples, Hinchliffe’s new exhibition has not only depicted scenes from his recent trip to Central Australia, but captured the magic!!
The artist, David Hinchliffe, joined the gallery opening to the excitement of many admirers, collectors and friends. He spoke of his relationship with the exhibition, with painting itself, and the inspiration of Central Australia.
“It wasn’t until I was 65 years old that my feet finally touched the red earth of Central Australia. I knew then that I had to paint this extraordinary landscape. The knowledge that these special places hold such profound meaning and significance for Australia’s first people makes them that much more unique and special.”
David Hinchliffe 2026
Presenting a series of vivid acrylic landscapes in both large and small formats, the works depict gorges, bush, waterholes, trees and Uluru itself in David Hinchliffe’s loved style.
On Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August, the exhibition spilled beyond the gallery walls as crowds gathered outside The G Contemporary on Hastings Street for two days of live painting by Hinchliffe. Working in full view of the public, the artist offered collectors, admirers and passers-by a rare and intimate glimpse into his mesmerising art practice.
Waterholes And Other Places For The Soul is showing at The G Contemporary, Hastings Street, Noosa Heads, until Thursday 3 September. The gallery is open daily. Visit
