Gareth Edwards RWA

Bio / CV

Born in the London area, Gareth now lives in Newlyn in West Cornwall and works in the Porthmeor Studios in St Ives, Cornwall, adjacent to the Tate Gallery, studios made famous by Patrick Heron, Ben Nicholson, Wilhelmena Barnes-Graham amongst many others. He is regarded as part of a new cohort of contemporary artists living and working in Cornwall and showing Nationally and Internationally.

Gareth was elected a full Royal West Academician in 2005 and is an active member of the Newlyn Society of Artists. Gareth exhibits regularly in solo exhibitions and in many mixed shows and art fairs in London including the British Art Fair held at the Saatchi Gallery and at the Toronto Art Fair in Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.

He has been described as a contemporary artist of Abstract Landscape Painting and was commissioned to write a book titled ‘Abstract Landscape Painting’, which was published in March 2020 with the Crow Wood Press.

Laura Gascoigne has described his paintings as being made "...of stardust and mud". He has also been described as a Turner for our times in the Galleries Magazine and he continues to make poetically abstracted landscape paintings that transport the viewer to beautifully contemplative spaces.
